The Huron County Soil and Crop Demonstration Day, held on August 16th at the 96th Annual Ploughing Match in Bayfield, was a resounding success! The demonstration drew a crowd of 60 and 70 people including local farmers and industry professionals interested in seeing some of the latest in agricultural equipment and practices.

Lawrence Levesque from Speare Seeds kicked off the demonstration with a practical presentation on cover crops. He shared valuable insights on the best varieties for the region, ideal planting seasons, and crop rotation strategies. The session included an in-field demonstration sponsored by Speare Seeds, showcasing recently planted plots of spring oats, a mix of oats Daikon radish and crimson clover, and sorghum sudangrass.

Attendees were treated to live demonstrations of five strip tillers (see image for details), namely:

1. Delta Power Equipment featured an Unverferth
2. Rick Kootstra from Huronview Demo Farm showcased a SoilWarrior
3. Hill and Hill presented a KUHN Krause Gladiator
4. Claussen Farms Custom Farming demonstrated a home-made strip tiller

5. The Hyde Brothers exhibited a Remlinger Versatile

The equipment demonstrations provided a great opportunity for those considering switching to strip till or upgrading their current machinery to see the equipment in real-world conditions.
